I love this so much, the word play has almost becoming trivialised over the years. I’m a Forest school leader and used to work in a primary school where play wasn’t given enough importance, free flow play where children were actually allowed to follow their own interests and don’t get me started on screens! That’s why I love Forest School, it’s almost the antidote to all that :)
It is so important. I listen to the world's being created, I can hear problems veing solved, feelings being worked through. Yet it's dismissed as not important.
Oh I do love this...thank you! Play is such a profound means of self expression, of self love, of self realisation...And then we become adults!!! What happens to play then?!?...May we remember the child within. May we remember the wild body within, the wild imagination within, the passionate, the creative, the imaginative, the solitude and the expansive...Thank you Elizabeth.
Beautifully said. I think what parents need to realise also, is that their unstructured play gives YOU space! I often feel the judgmental eyes of mothers on me when we are out and about and it looks like I am 'ignoring' my boys, but what I am doing is quite intentional, giving them space to get into their own worlds and PLAY! Nothing annoys me more than an adult that come crashing into a kids game and tries to be a part of it! Let them be and let them play!
Yes, the antidote, I love that! Forest School is all about trusting the child, meeting them where they're at, letting them lead isn't it? The tool work and campfires are beautiful offerings on top. Nature provides everything they need! My husband runs a Forest School and I run a self-directed learning community so play is central to all we do, not just in our home and it's a privilege to witness.

Beautiful Elizabeth, couldn't agree more 💛

I couldn't agree more Tansie! They need long stretches of time and space.....two things that none of us seem to have anymore.
